Solar systems for homes, societies and offices
We survey your roof or terrace, size the system to your electricity use, then supply and install it.
Choose the right type of system
The right choice depends on how you use power and whether you need backup.
| System | How it works | Batteries | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-grid | Connected to the electricity grid. Solar power is used first and the grid covers the rest, which lowers your bill. | Not needed | The grid is reliable and your main goal is a lower bill. It usually does not supply power during a grid outage. |
| Off-grid | Works on its own. Panels charge batteries, which supply your power. | Required | There is no grid connection or power cuts are frequent. |
| Hybrid | Connected to the grid and also stores power in batteries. | Required | You want a lower bill and backup during power cuts. |
| Solar water heater | Uses sunlight to heat water directly, so less electricity or gas is used for heating. | Not needed | You use a lot of hot water, such as in a home, hostel or hotel. |

Questions about solar
Which solar system is right for me?
An on-grid system lowers your bill without batteries. An off-grid system uses batteries and works without the grid. A hybrid system combines both. We recommend one after seeing your usage and site.
How much space does solar need?
As a rough guide, each kW needs about 100 sq ft of shade-free roof or terrace. The exact figure depends on the panels and layout.
Does solar work on cloudy days?
Panels still produce power on cloudy days, but less than in full sun.
Do the panels need maintenance?
Panels should be kept clean and the system checked from time to time. We explain what to do when we hand over the system.
